Our Wines

Founded November 22, 1977, by 31 local winemakers The Santa María Egipcíaca-Bodegas la Corte Cooperative Society is now a thriving modern winery comprising more than 250 members, cultivating over 2,500 hectares of vineyards in the beautiful area of Corte de Peleas.  Nestled among the gentle slopes and rich red soils typical of the area of Tierra de Barros Extremadura in the Southwest of Spain, our vineyards form part of an ecosystem where environmental protection is of vital importance, home to a Z.E.P.A. (EU Special Protection Area for Birds) and the Albuera Lagoon Complex which forms part of Europe’s Natura 2000 Network.

Soil and climate
Our rich, loamy soils are located at an average altitude of 250 meters benefitting from a continental Mediterranean climate typified by its cold winters, moderate rainfall, long hot summers and extensive hours of daily sunshine, the ideal conditions for ripening grapes.

Our varieties
The grapes grown in this area come predominantly from the native varieties Pardina, Cayetana, and Beba de los Santos which we use for our white wines, and the famous Tempranillo for our award winning  reds, in addition to some of our more recent plantations such as Macabeo, Garnacha, Syrah and Cabernet.

Our wines
Once the grapes reach their optimal moment of ripeness under the ever vigilant eye of our family of expert winegrowers and experienced teams of technicians, they are collected and transported to our state of the art facilities where they are processed in line with our rigorous quality controls. It is this careful attention to detail which allows us to produce these vibrant welcoming wines, the sincerest expression of our labors and lands, wines of unsurpassed quality which are uniquely worthy of the certification Ribera del Guadiana, Denomination of Protected Origin (D.O.P), PGI wines from the community of Extremadura.
